Practically Perfect Planner Challenge with Cara Vincens

Whew!  Thanks for stopping by!  My friend, Cara, from The Hooting Pirate challenged me to a FACE-OFF with a planner challenge!  If you know me at all, you know I CAN'T NOT accept a challenge . . . at least a fun, crafty challenge!  And this one pushed all my craft happy buttons. :)

Cara is some stiff competition and I don't think she's done any work, that I don't absolutely adore!  We could only use 4 things to create our Planner cover.  1. a composition book  2. washi tape  3.  doily(s) and 4. a sewing machine!  Pretty much my favorite stuff in the world!  And Cara's as well.  It was SHOW TIME!

So, I really had to try hard with this baby!  It didn't help that I saw her planner earlier today on her blog . . . BEFORE I finished mine!  Yikes!  It was BEE-YOU-TEA-FULL!

I wanted to scrap my design idea and start over BUT, instead, I took a deep breath and pulled myself together! (I'm not even kidding, guys!)

I had SO much fun with this challenge!  Part Two (2) is scheduled for Monday, February 2, 2015 and we are going to be dealing with the planner pages, the guts if you will.

You know I love cute, but truthfully, cute doesn't cut it if the planner guts are NOT right for you!  (Can you believe I said "cute doesn't cut it??  It was hahahahahard!)

Cara's blog post has all the details about an AWESOME class she is giving that runs 6 weeks and begins on February 9th!  It normally runs $47.00 but she offering an early bird special of $35.00 that runs through midnight tonight!  (I am going to ask her to extend it through tomorrow night at the same time!  I think she'll say yes!)

So go check it out AFTER you look at all my pretty pictures! :)  You'll find all the information at The Hooting Pirate  AND here's the link to Cara's blog post again, just to make it easy for you!  Here is a blurb from her site:

"This is a class to teach you how to buy, alter or create a planner that is practically perfect for you.  By analyzing what does what work for you, you will create a plan of action to get that planner that will work for you the way you need it to work.

Just because a planner isn't working for you doesn't mean that you can't use a planner, it just means that it was the WRONG planner for YOU!

I now have a planner system that's practically perfect... for me!  Now, while my system will not work for you, I can help you set up your Practically Perfect Planner system.
Whether your style is simple or elaborate, your schedule busy or overwhelming, you'll be able to come up with a planner system that is uniquely yours."

Oh, and BONUS guys!!  I'll be in the class with you!  As a student!  Just like you!  YAY!  I'm going to be making one for my sister (shhhh)!  She has given me carte blanche with the cover and she told me everything she needs for her "guts" and the rest is up to me!  So bring it on for real, Cara!!

So, one more thing.  I am too stinking tired/lazy to put these photos in order and I apologize for having to take them at night, so not my best!  But who really cares about that, right?  It was a SUPER fun experience and I am ready to come back for round TWO (2) on Monday!  I'm leaving this photo shoot setup out till tomorrow and seeing if I can get some better shots in daylight.  Some, of course, I can't retake cause that moment is gone!  But, no biggie!  Hey, did you notice the "Behind the scenes shots"  Now you know for real what my setup is looking like, so far.  I am not and will never be known as "Fancy Nancy" except by my dear friend, Abigail.  When she says it, it's cute! ;)

Oh, crap! (sorry)  I almost forgot!   You can win this class!  I know!  How could I forget??  Here are the deetz I stole from her blog!

So here is the challenge for you:

1. Using only the supplies we used, washi tape, doilies and a sewing machine, alter the cover of a book (not necessarily a planner).
2. Post a link to it here or in the comments in Cara's post at vincens.typepad.com before Feb 6th and you will be entered into a drawing to win a spot in her Practically Perfect Planner class.  Remember this is a 3 part challenge so the more challenges you participate in the more chances you get to win.
3. Sharing on social media will also earn you chances to win.  Use the hashtag #practicallyperfect and come back here and let me know where you shared.

Now, having said ALL that, I'm going to let the photos speak for themselves.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making this fun project and taking these fun photos!  Nope, not possible! ;)    Thanks Cara, I am having a blast!  Oh, and you might want to dust off your super hero cape, cause I'm pulling out ALL the stops for ROUND TWO!!  So BAM!

So here is the challenge for you:
1. Using only the supplies we used, washi tape, doilies and a sewing machine, alter the cover of a book (not necessarily a planner).
2. Post a link to it here or in the comments in Nancy's post at domesticraft.com before Feb 6th and you will be entered into a draw to win a spot in my Practically Perfect Planner class.  Remember this is a 3 part challenge so the more challenges you participate in the more chances you get to win.
3. Sharing on social media will also earn you chances to win.  Use the hashtag #practicallyperfect and come back here and let me know where you shared.
If you would like to take advantage of the early bird special (in case you don't win) and then you do end up winning ;) I will reimburse you the price of the class.  Sign up quick because the $35 price changes at midnight pacific tonight and will go up to $47!

It's sew easy to sew on paper! I probably sew more on paper, putting things together, that I do using glue. It's actually probably a tie with the sewing machine and washi tape! ;)

Thanks, Sakeenah! I appreciate you dropping in!

    1. Hi, Jenny!

Thanks, girl! I'm glad I didn't let her intimidate me! She almost got me with the pigtails and freckles, but I got a lot of encouragement from my peeps and I stuck to my guns! ;)

I love red threadwork embroidery, or red thread andything really! One of my machines is always locked and loaded with big, fat spool of red thread!!

Thanks for stopping by, Jenny! You ready to join me and Cara and get your Practically Perfect Planner going? I hope so! I'd love to take the class with you too!!

  7. Nancy I love your Kenmore! I found one just like it on craigslist for $15, it lives at my moms house. You've inspired me. I'm going to work hard to get my entry in before the deadline.

Isn't she a beauty? I think I got a similar deal as yours, at a thrift shop! Runs like a dream too! In fact, all my machines are vintage. I even keep out and use the one my Mom left me, a Singer 401 slant arm. It's gorgeous and also runs beautifully!

I'm sp excited I inspired you to do this challenge! You are going to rock it!! I can't wait to do some crafting with you! Yay!

    1. You're sweet, Trish!

Cara had already put a cute bunting on her cover, so I decided mine would just be a cute photo prop! Works for me! Oh, and zigzag stitching is one of the reasons I wake up in the morning! ;) ♡ Thanks for dropping in, Trish!

  9. This is so stinkin' cute! Makes me want to do some paper sewing. Me and planners don't get along. Actually me and calendars don't get along. If I write it down, I have to do it. Don't like being told what to do. LOL!

  10. Hi, Lori!

Thanks, girlfriend!! You crack me up! You are the boss of your planner or calendar! (I'm the same way though, I don't like being told what to do!) ;)

I think you out to join the class and get a grip on your schedule! We need to craft together, one way or the other!!

  11. Well, I had this long comment written out and forgot to sign in first so I'm doing a short version. (I hate when that happens) Your comments on the pics made me giggle...you are so funny! I love the cut corners on the doily...I have to remember that one. And I love this whole idea but alas...I have no sewing machine available currently (boo hoo). I need to remedy that so I can use some of these antique doilies and the washi tape I've collected and join the party!

  12. Patty!

If you drive your cute buns over to my side of town AND buy me coffee, I've got a sweet vintage sewing machine for the taking, just for you! ♡ I SEW want to see what you would come up with! :)
